I've been spending a lot of time in the garden lately; it's a good place to collect your thoughts and also see immediate results for your efforts. :) I thought I'd share some photos...
Here's our one lone pumpkin plant, valiantly putting forth some blooms. I've counted nine buds on it, so hopefully we get some sort of harvest! Bluebird is ecstatic! I don't know yet if I'll try for one gigantic pumpkin or allow as many pumpkins that the plant can produce. I'd like to try my hand at re-creating Williams-Sonoma's Pecan Pumpkin Butter...can only do that if I've lots of pumpkins to experiment with...
This green bean plant is my best one, the others aren't nearly as impressive.
And our corn...a pittance amount, but that's what happens when you plant late. How sad is it that I'm really looking forward to some fresh corn because I haven't had any for a really long time? I'm sorry, I am not paying what they're askin for it at the grocery store.
The Sunflower House is coming along nicely. I keep thinking that I should thin out the flowers, but it's incredibly windy here and I think them being so close together is what's keeping them from falling over!
I planted a cutting flower mix with the sunflower house, so we're starting to get random little blooms throughout--the girls think it's so neat to find new flowers every day!
Petunias do wonderfully here. I don't know why I bother growing anything else. Next year I'm planning on ripping out a bunch of disappointing plants and just planting an ocean of petunias.
These are "Tidal Wave" petunias, which I'm quite impressed with. (Ignore my failing marigolds.) That's just one petunia plant!
And I don't know how this rose bush keeps itself alive, but it's performing beautifully yet again. I am, however, thinking about yanking it out and stashing it in my backyard so that I can actually cut the blooms and enjoy them indoors without having a naked rose bush lounging in my front yard for everyone to see. I went for a walk the other day to look at other people's flowers and I decided that, while I'm a fan of roses, I am not a fan of rose bushes. They're gangly and kind of ugly. I'd rather just have the flowers inside, so I'm going to start hiding the rose bushes where passersby can't see them.
This little sprout is shooting up like a weed! I love my three little princess flowers.

She's finally a big 2 year old! Goodness me, time is going by swiftly with her. She's my little Miss Chatterbox, mimicking anything and then laughing her head off; tripping over her own two feet constantly and screaming at her big sister whenever she gets too close. She's such a vivacious and wonderful part of my life.
